When you drop off a tool for repair at Franklyn Tools & Repair, you might wonder: what happens next? We get that question a lot — and the answer is simpler than you’d think, thanks to the system we use to manage every repair that comes through our shop.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how we track your repair from the moment you walk in to the moment you pick it up.

Step 1: Intake

When you bring in your tool, we log it into our repair management system right at the counter. We record:

  • The tool type, brand, and model (DeWalt, Milwaukee, Makita — we see them all)
  • What’s wrong with it, in your words
  • Photos of the tool’s current condition
  • Your contact info so we can text you updates

You sign off on the intake digitally, and you’re out the door. No paper tickets to lose.

Step 2: Diagnosis

Our technicians evaluate the tool and figure out exactly what it needs. If it’s straightforward — a worn brush, a bad switch, a stripped gear — we move right to repair. If it needs parts or the fix is bigger than expected, we’ll text you with an update and a quote before we proceed.

Step 3: Parts

If your repair needs parts, we check our inventory first. We keep common wear items in stock for the brands we service most. If we need to order something, we’ll let you know the timeline. Either way, you’ll get a text when parts arrive and work begins.

Step 4: Repair

This is where the magic happens. Our techs make the repair, test the tool, and document the work with photos. You’ll get a text notification when your tool moves into repair and another when it’s done.

Step 5: Ready for Pickup

Once your tool passes testing, we’ll send you a text with your invoice and a link to pay online. You can pay right from your phone — no waiting at the counter when you come to pick up. Just show up, grab your tool, and go.
